August:Osage County to Close its Broadway Run on June 28, 2009

We just heard the bad news, that August:Osage County will end its Broadway run on June 28, 2009. The show is closing after 666 performances.

I just had the opportunity to see the show again last week with Phylicia Rashad as one of the stars in the cast. She was superb indeed. August:Osage County is a drama about a dysfunctional mid-western family that has a reunion of sorts after the patriarch of the family goes missing. The shows writer, Tracy Letts won a Pulitzer Prize for the acclaimed drama as well as the 2008 Tony Award for Best Play.

August:Osage County is a three and one half hour drama with lots of funny material sprinkled throughout. Other current cast members include Elizabeth Ashley, Anne Berkowitz, Guy Boyd, John Cullum, Kimberly Guerrero, Brian Kerwin, Mariann Mayberry, Michael Milligan, Sally Murphy, Troy West and Frank Wood.

Applause is pleased to announce that the show will start playing on the road from July 24-August 8 in Denver and in San Francisco from August 11 to September 6, 2009.
