Dining out before the theater in New York City?
I love to dine out in New York City. Being one of New York's long-time licensed ticket brokers for Broadway Theater for over 31 years, I have had the great privilege of seeing hundreds of Broadway Shows. Just about every one of those shows came with the experience of dining at many a very good restaurant spot. Although I wouldn't say I was a dining expert, I certainly know enough to suggest some superb places to have a meal before the Broadway Show your going to see.
Some of my favorites in the New York City theater district in restaurants are:
Becco (Italian)-located at 355 West 46th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues. They are famous for their "all the pasta you can eat for $22.95" prix fixe and inexpensive wine list. Although it gets noisy when the place fills up, the staff aims to please everyone and a great time will be had for sure. Their web site address is http://www.becco-nyc.com/
Roberto Passon (another great Italian place), is located at 741 Ninth Avenue at 50th Street. This place is one of my very favorites. The "high quality to price ratio" makes this restaurant very special for me. All of my friends and family love eating here. The atmosphere is simple with exposed brick walls but the food and fast service are truly a highlight in my book. Their web site is http://www.robertopasson.com/
The Palm,(Steakhouse) has 3 locations. The theater district location is at 250 West 50th Street, between Broadway and 8th Avenues. The Palm is one of the better known steak houses in New York City. Huge steaks and even bigger lobsters are the call of the day at The Palm. Although it is expensive the food quality and incredibly fast and efficient service make this place a great treat. The Palm's web site is http://www.thepalm.com/
Bond 45 (Italian Steakhouse) is located at 154 West 45th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues. In addition to their fantastic steaks and delicious seafood, Bond 45 is known for one of the finest "antipastos" around. Bond 45 is a bit pricey but worth the special treat in The Big Apple when celebrating a special night with friends and family before or after the theater. Their web site is http://www.bond45.com/
Ruby Foo's (Pan-Asian) has 2 NYC locations. The location in the theater district is at 1626 Broadway at 49th Street. I've eaten at Ruby Foo's many times. It's like one big party atmosphere and the food is inventive and delicious. I have something different each time I dine there. Their web site is http://www.brguestreataurants.com/ . Enjoy!
Thalia (American) is located at 828 Eight Avenue at 50th Street. Thalia is convenient for just about anyone going to the Broadway theater. Their menu is unique and the great food quality and their service is right on target to get everyone fed and on their way to the theater on time. The atmosphere is somewhat upscale at Thalia. Their web site is http://www.restaurantthalia.com/
Serafina (Italian), now has 6 NYC locations. Their two theater district locations are in the Time Hotel, 224 West 49th Street, between Broadway and 8th Avenues and in the Dream Hotel, located at 210 West 55th Street (on Broadway). Their web site is http://www.serafinarestaurant.com/ . Serafina have wonderful thin-crust pizzas. pastas and salads served in a very lively atmosphere. I've dined at both theater district locations in the last year or so and had a very good meal and pleasant service experience.
