Applause Has Learned that God of Carnage's Tony-Nominated Cast to Extend, After a Summer Break!

God of Carnage, probably the funniest and most enjoyable play this season, has extended its limited Broadway run, and found a way to retain its four Tony-nominated stars—by giving them a summer vacation. Yasmina Reza’s comedy, which is sure to win the Tony for Best Play this Sunday, will go dark on July 27 so that cast members Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, James Gandolfini and Marcia Gay Harden can “fulfill previously scheduled family commitments,” according to a news release. The play will resume performances at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on September 8 and play through November 15. All four actors will remain with the production. God of Carnage, which opened on March 22, received six 2009 Tony nominations: Best Play, Best Actor (Daniels and Gandolfini), Best Actress (Davis and Harden) and Best Director (Matthew Warchus). The play has become one of the biggest hits of the season, regularly playing to capacity houses. For the week ending May 31, the show grossed a whopping $911,320, exceeding the box office take of a dozen big-budget musicals. The show will probably continue according to Jeff Daniels after November 15th with a new all-star cast!!
